International Education Week

International Education Week at 星空传媒 is a vibrant, campus-wide celebration designed to foster global awareness, cultural understanding and community engagement. This week features a series of events that bring together domestic and international students, community, faculty and staff. From food and cultural performances to guest lectures, panels and themed social events, IEW provides multiple opportunities for participants to experience and share the diverse cultures represented at TROY.

One of the highlight events is the ISCO Festival, which closes out the week with a showcase of international music, dance and cuisine, giving students the chance to celebrate their heritage and educate others in a festive, inclusive setting.

International Photo Contest

Showcase the world through your lens!

The International Photo Contest invites TROY students to submit photos they captured while abroad. Whether it's a stunning landscape, a cultural tradition or a moment that shaped your global experience, this is your chance to share your story visually. Photos will be displayed during International Education Week at the Taste of the World event on Wednesday, celebrating the beauty of global perspectives and the power of international experiences.

Global Bake Off

Date: Wednesday, November 19

Location: John Robert Lewis Quad

Time: 11 a.m.鈥2 p.m.

Sign-up deadline: November 17

Please ensure the dish serves 35 鈥 50 people

Participants must drop off their baked goods by 10:15 a.m. the day of the contest

Roster forms can be picked up and turned in at 008 Hawkins Hall.

Monday, November 17

  • From Alabama to Slovakia:  10鈥11 a.m., 211 Library
    • Dr. Chris Shaffer will discuss his book Moon over Sasova and his experiences teaching in Slovakia. He arrived there three years after the end of communism and 14 days after Slovakia became an independent nation. Shaffer will also talk about the importance of international experiences and how they can shape both the professional and personal lives of young people.
  • International Dining Takeover: 11 a.m.鈥1 p.m., Dining Hall
    • Experience a taste of the world during our International Dining Takeover! This special menu features three globally inspired dishes: the flavorful Thai Chili Chicken Sandwich, the savory Bulgogi, and the aromatic Chana Masala. These exclusive options will be available for a limited time. Don't miss your chance to enjoy these international favorites right here on campus!
  • Destination Desserts - Real Students. Real Stories.: 3:30 p.m., Trojan Center 119
    • Come and try international desserts and hear from 星空传媒 students that have studied at our partner schools abroad (maybe add country when we know). You will also have a chance to hear from students that are currently studying at 星空传媒 that are from our international partner schools. Make new friends and find a partner school to attend!
  • Table Tennis Tournament: 6:30 p.m., BCM

    • Snapshots of the World 鈥 Photo displays from across continents
  • Memory and Legacy of the End of WWII on it's 80th Anniversary: 4 p.m., Library
    • World War Two, one of the bloodiest conflicts of the 20th century, ended in 1945. How is the war remembered on its 80thanniversary? The roundtable of 星空传媒 history professors 鈥 Dr. Tim Buckner, Dr. Margaret K. Gnoinska, Dr. Bob Kane, and Dr. Dan Puckett 鈥 will discuss American, European, and Asian perspectives surrounding the memory and legacy of the war. The discussion will focus on issues such as the U.S. dropping of atomic weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki; the Holocaust and other atrocities committed by the Nazi German regime; Japan's Greater Co-Prosperity Sphere, Pearl Harbor attack, the Nanjing Massacre, and 鈥渃omfort women;鈥 the seeds of the Civil Rights movement in the United States; and the rise of the Cold War. The event is organized by the Department of History and Philosophy and sponsored by the College of Arts and Humanities. The event is open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.

Thursday, November 20

  • Taste + Create: Spring Rolls & Gimbap: 12鈥1 p.m., Upstairs Dining Hall
    • Hosted by the K-Edu Center
    • Our mission is to bridge local and international communities by providing high-quality educational experiences that promote intercultural competence, academic excellence and meaningful dialogue. Through innovative programming, collaborative research and community outreach, the Glocal K Center empowers students and educators to engage critically and creatively with Korea's dynamic role in a globalized world while contributing positively to the diverse cultural landscape of TROY and beyond.
  • TROY to Career: 3:30 p.m., 107 Hawkins Hall
    • TROY to Career is an alumni panel featuring successful international alumni from various professional fields. They will share their stories about how 星空传媒 shaped and influenced their career paths, as well as offer advice on transitioning from campus life to professional life. Current students will also have the opportunity to ask questions and learn from our alumni's experiences.

The
ISCO Festival, hosted annually by 星空传媒's International Student Cultural Organization, is a vibrant celebration of food, music, dance and cultural heritage. The event brings together international and American students in a night where global flavors are on full display. Attendees sample authentic dishes from multiple countries while enjoying performances featuring traditional songs, dances and even fashion shows. Thoughtfully timed during International Education Week, the festival also serves as a bridge across cultures, helping students learn about, appreciate and connect with cultures from around the world.

What is International Education Week?

International Education Week (IEW) is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education. It's celebrated each November to highlight the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide.

The week promotes cultural exchange, study abroad opportunities, global partnerships and the value of preparing students for an interconnected world. 

Here's what International Education Week usually includes:
